Abass Akande Obesere aka Omo Rapala was born on January 28, 1965, in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Education
He attended St Paul Primary School in Ebute Metta, Lagos moving further to Jubril Martins Secondary School in Ebute Metta for his Secondary school education.
After finishing his secondary school education, he couldn’t further into the university due to the financial crisis of his parents. He then decided to go into music fully.
Career
Before fortune smiled on Obesere, he used to be a boxer before becoming a printer and later an electric business owner.
He began his music career under Sony music in 1981 before splitting with them due to quarrels over payment. He moved on to Mayors Ville Entertainment before going on to a US-based Nigerian record label called Free World Music.
22 years ago, Obesere released an album titled “Omorapala Overthrow” which dominated the airwaves for years. He went further by releasing a two-in-one album titled “Mr Teacher” which also went viral when it was released.
In 2009, Obesere released an album which he titled ‘Revolution’ where he featured artists such as Eazy Lizy, Lord of Ajasa, Uncle Promise, 9ice, Timaya, and Young Trybson.
He illustrates his genre of music as Fuji-Pop which he says is a combination of Fuji and Hip Hop. He is also known for his acting proficiency when he played a role in the movie ‘Ito (Urine)’ which was released in 2008.
In 2018, Obesere, revealed in an interview that he could have been more wealthier and productive than the popular Nigerian billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote if he was given an opportunity.
According to Obesere, he disclosed that for the past 12 years, he had been restricted from travelling to the UK over suspected fraudulent activities and money laundering. Nevertheless, his wife and children are very much abroad and have been there for more than eight years.
He mentioned that him not being able to travel abroad is as a result of his financial successes. However, the ban was lifted in 2018, and according to him, he has been out of the country for about eight times.
In another occasion, he slammed a fellow Fuji artiste in an interview with Vanguard over statements made by this other Fuji artiste, K1 De Ultimate against the former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode. All of these wars of words sprunged up due to the catastrophe hovering over the political atmosphere in the country.
Abass Akande Obesere was involved in a ghastly accident on his way to Lagos on Ijebu Ode in his Lexus LX470 on the 8th of April 2012 but survived it. It was reported that he and two other passengers sustained wounds and were taken immediately to Orisunbare Hospital, Jakande, Isolo, Lagos state.
Obesere does not celebrate his birthday in a lousy manner and when asked, he disclosed that he was expecting something from Almighty God and would not have a big celebration until it is done.

In 2014, Abass Akande Obesere was alleged to have raped a woman identified as Miss Olayinka Olaiye who came to his house for business motives, but he denied the accusation by saying that he had consensual sex with the lady and didn’t forcefully had sex with her.
