UK based YouTuber Emdee Tiamiyu who says Nigerians travel to UK under the disguise of study has been arrested over N300M fraud 1068x534 1

Emdee Tiamiyu, a Nigerian YouTuber residing in the United Kingdom, has been arrested on charges related to fraud.

In a widely circulated video on social media, Tiamiyu, who gained attention a few months ago for a contentious interview with the BBC regarding Nigerian immigrants, is now under scrutiny for a financial disagreement involving the UK government.

The incident stems from a recent BBC interview where Tiamiyu commented on Nigerian students in the UK, implying that some exploit the student visa system not for academic endeavors but for employment purposes and to relocate their families to the country.

The interview purportedly influenced the UK government’s choice to impose limitations on Nigerian students, specifically preventing them from bringing relatives to the UK unless they are enrolled in PhD programs.

After the contentious interview, Tiamiyu is accused of defrauding the UK government of £160,000. According to reports, the funds, designated for resettlement purposes, were allegedly diverted by Tiamiyu to build a house in his hometown of Ogun State, Nigeria.

The UK government presumably allocated the resettlement funds to assist Tiamiyu in integrating and achieving financial stability within the country, especially following his asylum claim subsequent to the interview.

The UK government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrest or the details of the fraud allegations. The situation is evolving, with possible ramifications for bilateral relations and the international student community in the UK.

vv_348: He got over 160,000 pounds for asylum settlement? How do ya’ll come up with these stories? 160,000 pounds for asylum benefits how exactly? Gosh.

nnenna_blinks_: I hope some Nigerians abroad can learn from this. If you sell your people to the Yt mañ to gain favour and look different They will always look at you the same. Take a look at the Indians, afghans and Pakistanis abroad. They would always put their brothers on and shield them if a code has been decoded. But we rather sell our own to appear more righteoús.
