Premier League referee, Anthony Taylor relegated to English Championship division
English referee Anthony Taylor, has found himself on a journey down to the depths of the English Championship due to persistent concerns about his decision-making abilities.
Taylor made headlines when he officiated the Europa League final, a match remembered for its controversial moments. Most notably, he chose not to award Roma a penalty for a blatant handball by a Sevilla player, leaving many scratching their heads.
This incident was just one of many complaints that have piled up throughout the season. His most recent blunder occurred during the Wolves versus Newcastle match, where he awarded Newcastle a highly contentious penalty against Hee-Chan Hwang. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, but the controversy surrounding Taylor’s decision lingered.
As a result of these repeated questionable calls, Anthony Taylor now finds himself set to officiate the match between Preston and Coventry in the English Championship this coming Saturday.
The decision to relegate Taylor to the Championship was not taken lightly. The Football Association carefully reviewed his performance and determined that this was the appropriate course of action.
The English Championship, often regarded as the second division of English football, will serve as Anthony Taylor’s new testing ground. It remains to be seen whether this relegation will be a temporary setback or a turning point in his career.
Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has been dealt a devastating blow, losing his mother barely two months after the passing of his father.
Nwabali shared the heartbreaking news on X on New Year’s day, writing, “Rip mom, worst year of my life already” accompanied by tears and heartbreak emojis.
This emotional post came just hours after he shared a 2024 recap video, expressing optimism for the new year.
“2024 was a good year, we’re doubling everything in 2025. Thank you Chippa United FC. Thank you Super Eagles. Thanks to all my fans. Let’s do more!” he had written earlier.
Nwabali’s father died in November, just hours after the goalkeeper helped the Super Eagles secure a crucial point in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic.
The goalkeeper’s bravery on the field was evident as he manned the goalpost despite his personal loss.
His teammates, fans, and well-wishers rallied around him, offering condolences and support.
With the loss of both parents, Nwabali joins the likes of Victor Osimhen, who has also experienced the pain of losing both parents.
