“It is not about popularity or streaming” – Grammy CEO speaks on how winners are selected for the Grammy Awards (Video)
The Chief Executive Officer of the Recording Academy which is responsible for the prestigious Grammy Award, Harvey Mason Jr., in a video making the rounds online reveals how winners are selected.
The 66th Grammy Award was held on Sunday night February 4th 2024 at Crypto.com Arena located in Downtown Los Angeles, United States of America.
However, it was a poor outing for Nigerians as none of the artistes nominated from the country including, Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide, Asake, Ayra Starr and Tems bagged any awards.
During an interview circulating online, the CEO of Grammy dishes out how winners are selected for the awards.
According to him, the only way for artsites to win at the Grammy Awards depends on how the membership of the academy votes.
He added that to be a membership of the recording academy, you must be a professional from the USA working in the music industry.
In his words; “You have to understand that the only way to win is to have the membership of the academy vote for you, to be a member of the academy , you have to be a professional working in music in the United States for now.
He added that the music of qualified artistes for the year will be submitted, the members will listen to it and evaluate the quality of the arts in it.
The CEO said the recording academy members won’t check the sales, the streams, fans, followers while adding that there is no journalism, no community, and music label will be involved.
He concluded that since it based on the voting of the members of the recording academy, opinions are involved and by extension, it is subjective noting that there is no better song or better rap.

Nigerians have started expressing concerns as music legend, Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, a.k.a King Sunny Ade, is declared missing by his daughter.
Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye, the daughter of the music icon, took to her social media page to raise the alarm as she wagged the finger of accusation at his manager and stepbrother, Dayo Adegeye.

She opined that he is being made to perform under duress.

TikToker Disturbing who is into Justice for Mohbad passed joins his ancestors while on a live video, clip goes viral (Watch)
A video is making the rounds across social media platforms that shows the moment a Nigerian TikToker identifed as Disturbing passed away while on a live video.
Disturbing in the trending clip who is well known for always seeeking Justice for Mohbad was seen going through a seizure before he later died.
According to some social media users, TikToker Disturbing was busy cursing mama Mohbad, Adura, Liam and WUNMI on his live stream before the incident happened.
Sharing the video, investigative journalist, Temilola Sobola wrote; “A popular Tiktoker known as Disturbing who was also into JUSTICE FOR MOHBAD passed away some hours ago while he was on a live video…….”
