Inter Milan director explains how Lukaku disrespected Inter

Inter Milan sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has claimed that their former player, Romelu Lukaku, disrespected them over how he handled their attempt to re-sign him.
Recall that Romelu Lukaku first joined Inter Milan from Manchester United on August 8, 2019, for a transfer fee worth €74 million. Due to his mouthwatering performance during the 2020-2021 season, Chelsea decided to sign him on August 12, 2021, for a transfer fee worth 113 million.
Lukaku struggled to cope at Chelsea throughout the 2021-2022 season and even had a fallout with the then-coach of the club, Thomas Tuchel.
Hence, he returned to Inter Milan on loan ahead of the 2022-2023 season. While at Inter, he proved to be a good striker and the club made efforts to offer him a permanent contract ahead of the 2023-2024 season.
While the negotiations were ongoing, Inter Milan decided to sign a new striker, 25-year-old Marcus Thuram from Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer.
That move is believed to have annoyed 30-year-old Lukaku and he decided to move to Roma on loan from Chelsea instead of signing a permanent deal with Inter.
In quotes shared by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano earlier today, November 1, Piero Ausilio claimed that Inter failed to sign Lukaku permanently because the Belgian striker refused to answer phone calls.
“Lukaku? Deals can collapse but respect should always be there”, he said.
“If someone disappears and doesn’t even answer phone calls… that was unacceptable”.
“The deal with Chelsea collapsed on July 8 after days and days trying to call him”.
Since Romelu Lukaku joined Roma on loan on August 30, 2023, the Belgian striker has scored 8 goals in 11 games in all competitions.
