Shaibu Husseini, the Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has announced that the Federal Government has approved the prohibition of depicting money rituals and glamorizing vices in Nigerian films.

Husseini disclosed this while speaking at a National Stakeholders Engagement on Smoke-Free Nollywood held in Enugu on Wednesday, May 22. The NFVCB boss emphasized that the prohibition of money rituals and glamorizing vices in Nigerian films has been approved by the Federal Government.

He said; “When my predecessor approached the former Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Muhammed on the need to make a subsidiary legislation to curtail the display of smoking in Nigerian movies, he saw the need to include money rituals. Others included in the regulation are ritual killings and glamourising other crimes in order to further sanitise the film industry.

Today, I am delighted to announce to you that the Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, pursuant to section 65 of the NFVCB Act 2004 has approved the regulation.

The minister has approved the Prohibition of Money Ritual, Ritual Killing, Tobacco, Tobacco Products, Nicotine Product Promotion and Glamorisation display in Movies, Musical Videos and Skits” Regulations 2024.

We have also forwarded the approved copy to the Federal Ministry of Justice for Gazette.”

According to Husseini, besides the health implications, glamourising smoking in films poses a negative influence on teens and young adults who constitute the largest segment of Nigeria movie viewers. He said that the board was set to undertake detailed enlightenment programmes in secondary schools, tertiary institutions, local communities, faith groups and other institutions.

saintavenue_ent1: Not a bad idea, but when them go ban looting public funds?

mz_bolajoko: But it is our reality, and the movies shows the bad end that comes with the rituals. How’s that a problem?.

obaksol: Oshey😂😂😂😂😂😂Hope they ban Looting of Citizens Funds too?

bright___:  Very good!! At least the illusion that money ritual can make you a billionaire overnight will reduce in our society.

iamninashai:  I think it’s a good move. Those movies portrait Nigeria and Africa in a bad light. Let’s be more creative and have better scenes.

princessdammy_:  Ban drug, corruption, money laundering, smoking, prostitution scenes too 😏.

iam_bmodel:  This federal government are always focused on things that are not important. So nah mountain Zion movies they want make we dey watch now?😏.

slimcase influencer don jazzy

According to Slimcase, he didn’t make a clear-cut decision about becoming an influencer, rather he had found himself engaging in it.

Slimcase stated that he had studied how Don Jazzy had stayed relevant through the years, and got inspired to become an influencer.

He said:

“I didn’t decide to become a content creator/influencer. I just found myself doing it. As I was doing music and seeing trends online, I got inspired by Don Jazzy.

I looked at Don Jazzy’s way of life, from music to other things; how he has stayed relevant through the years and I was inspired. That has really helped me to hold my fans till the right music comes.”

Slimcase’s revelation is coming barely a week after Wizkid was bashed online for referring to Don Jazzy as an “influencer.”
